Experiential Marketing
Experiential Marketing can be product-related or something completely outside-the-box, offering your customers or clients a memorable experience to look back on, opening the path to greater business in the future. For example, this could mean something as simple as product-testing. In the dive industry, we had customers lined up waiting for the opportunity to try out the latest underwater gear and this would lead to higher equipment and course sales, day in and day out. How easy would it be for your product to be tested? Do you currently offer a way for future customers to try out your product or service before they buy or for new customers to try something different?
Another great example from the scuba market is an event put on as a social day for the local kids. Were we investing in our future clientele?? Maybe…but what we were actually trying to do is add a new experience to our community, by teaching kids how to snorkel and offer the local children an opportunity to just have some fun! This event was run completely by donation of both time and equipment and some fantastic companies and people participated. It also allowed companies that don’t usually work together, to come together and share this experience, enabling both parties to share their circles of influence, introducing new customers to the products and services that the other company had to offer. Not to mention it was also a ton of fun and the kids had a blast! Hey I’m still talking about it… does that mean it’s still working?? YOU BET! Can you think of any social activities you and another company or group could organize together?
Do big businesses use Experiential Marketing? You bet! One of the best examples to-date was the experiential marketing campaigns for the "Skyfall-007" movie, that were done in partnership with Coke. Was James Bond giving up his love for martinis for a cold Coke?? Of course not, so what was the tie-in to relate Coke and Mr. Bond? Fun and Experience!! Watch the following YouTube video and enjoy!
